借条和欠条，在法律上，区别很大。有些客户就是一字之差，导致了很严重的后果。我们可以从下面三个方面去理解借条和欠条的区别。
一、借条证明借款关系，基于借款产生的事实记载；欠条证明欠款关系，基于其他法律行为产生的事实记载，例如因买卖、侵权、违约等。
二、法院进行合法性审查时适用的法律不同。借条适用借贷关系的法律规范，欠条则适用具体法律关系的法律规范。
三、约定还款期限，两者的诉讼时效是一样的。但是没约定还款期限，则欠条是三年诉讼时效，借条是从要求偿还之日起三年，当然两者都是债权，最长诉讼时效均不能超过二十年。
